Jamaican Bytes BBS (Bulletin Board System)
Before the modern internet, tech enthusiasts connected and shared ideas through Bulletin Board Systems (BBSs) — online communities you accessed using a dial-up modem. Users would log in from home, explore message boards, download files, and chat with others, all while listening to the iconic handshake sounds of their modems. BBSs were the foundation of online communities, long before web browsers and social media existed.
Many people today have never experienced what it was like to log into a BBS. That’s why we created the Jamaican Bytes BBS — to give tech lovers, IT professionals, and retro enthusiasts a space to connect, share, and discuss technology in Jamaica, just like the early days of online communities.
Our BBS is available via Telnet(See Below) giving you a weekend window to log in, explore, and join the community. Inside, you can:
- Ask questions and get advice on IT and tech topics
- Share stories, discoveries, or projects related to Jamaica’s tech scene
- Discuss retro gaming, gadgets, and computing history
- Play classic Door Games, just like the old-school BBS days
- Connect with other like-minded tech enthusiasts
The Jamaican Bytes BBS brings together the nostalgia of early online communities with the convenience of today’s internet, letting you experience a piece of computing history while staying connected with modern tech discussions — now with the fun of weekend Door Games!
